DNS servers have been in use worldwide for about 30 years. During this time, all domain names have been used with little change, thus requiring some maintenance. This concerns the entire world, including the Czech Republic, which has the CZ.NIC Association as its country domain administrator.

For all web server operators, this means a transition to a new type of standard, which is scheduled for the end of this year. Thus, by the end of January 2019, name servers will have to comply with the new EDNS extensions to reflect, not the DNS extensions. However, this move is not new to many experts and has been planned for quite some time; DNS software vendors are counting on it, and after this date, support for all servers still in violation of the standardized RFC 2681 and the more recent RFC 6891 will be terminated.

In connection with this planned change, it is also possible to check whether a particular webspace supports the new standard. Thus, domain owners can use the EDNS Standards Verification web form

Internet Anniversary

The current online world is almost unthinkable without the Internet. We routinely communicate via email, use the Internet on our smartphones, read news sites, shop at e-stores, exchange ideas, and do not simply rely on transportation, face-to-face meetings, or the mail. But this has not always been the case, and last year marked the 25th anniversary of the Czech Republic\’s connection to the global network. It was just February 13, 1992, and at that time Czechoslovakia still existed as an independent republic, the Czechoslovak Federal Republic (CSFR) to be exact
